The Cake Monologues, a home based Brooklyn business, simply changed from a thought to a reality when the owner's father, Leon Richardson, passed away from lung cancer and Stage IV chronic kidney disease on January 19, 2009, one day before the historical inauguration of President Barack Obama.
She remembers celebrating her father's 58th birthday with her family trying to keep his tradition alive of creating home cooked meals, particularly making enough sweet potato pies and food to give to the senior citizens, as well as various other in the Crown Heights area that knew of the Richardson family. Although Christmas day may be his birthday, it was much more special to him to see others smile. This is something that his family treasure about him and hold on to from his memory.
Preserving that tradition and taking on the unspoken yet strong advice given to her from her father, she decided to pursue her passion of becoming a pastry chef instead of living out others' dreams.
Self taught and utilizing recipes from several generations, she tweaks them to her preferences and even infuse alcohol into traditional cakes. All of her cakes and buttercreams are made from scratch. We strive to provide excellent service to our customers. We genuinely appreciate every person who cross our paths and put in 110 % to make their cakes on time and as requested. From a mere thought, dream and her father's spiritual guidance, The Cake Monologues was born.
