          Well...Who Are You?

          The Cake Monologues

The Cake Monologues, a home based Brooklyn business located in the heart of Bedford Stuyvesant, simply changed from a thought to a reality when the owner's father, Leon Richardson, passed away from lung cancer and Stage IV chronic kidney on January 19, 2009.  Prior to his death, her father preserved the tradition of making enough sweet potato pies and food to the senior citizens each Thanksgiving and Christmas for over ten years.

Preserving his passion for the culinary industry, Latoya Snell decided to pursue turning her most treasured times with her father into a career in culinary arts.  Although The Cake Monologues is a fairly new company, our company served and catered to over 200 customers for their basic pastry needs to special events within the first year of business from her home.

"...I'm tryna teach you sumthin...yall just don't listen!
The more I teach you, the dumber you get!"

Taking a chance on passion, Latoya S. Snell, a self taught Brooklynite decided to create an e-business and incorporated a part of her past work in Social Work, Administration and love for open mics in a culinary business.

During a networking event, a client asked her what interested her in pursuing a culinary business specializing in twisting traditional favorite from scratch:

"... I just wanted to make a cake because I was pregnant, hormonal, and craving something that didn't come out of a box.  Who knew it would go this far?  Never did I imagine that people would be so interested in my estranged taste and flavor combination.  This business is truly a blessing and if I didn't have loving people who supported me thus far, I don't know if I would have EVER thought of doing this."

Latoya is currently a student at Star Career Academy of New York, majoring in Professional Cooking.  She anticipates on being completed with her program by March 2012.  In addition, she will pursue her Associate's Degree in Food Service Management, Bachelor's of Technology in Culinary Education & anticipates on being a chef instructor within 5 years.

Pastry Education 101 & My Passion

Wikipedia states that the term "pastry is the name given to various kinds of baked goods made from ingredients such as flour, milk, butter, shortening, baking powder or eggs."  Thanks to constant change, many of the items that we need are made available to us as quick as we can walk to a corner store.  Unfortunately, some of the value, and particularly, quality has fallen to the wayside.

There's nothing like an old fashioned meal or CAKE!  We love and pride ourselves on an old school feel with a millennium twist.
